Beyond Foundation: How To Find Your Perfect Shade
We have developed a simple 3 step system that allows you to identify either the colour you need or the colour you want. It's important to point out that while identifying your shade, look not only at your face, but also your neck and décolletage, as ideally you want your face and body to have some shade consistency.
Step 1:
Identify which colour category you sit within, from Light, Medium or Dark. These are generalised categories that can often be identified as to how your skin reacts when in the sun. So for example, LIGHT skins tend to burn very easily in the sun, but will slowly develop colour and eventually tan, MEDIUM skins will tan in the sun, but if exposed to the sun for a longer time, can burn and DARK skins, tend to tan easily and will rarely burn.
Step 2:
Identify your undertone, from GOLDEN, ROSE OR NEUTRAL. Undertones can be confusing if you're not used to looking at skin in this way, but it is essentially the tones you have in your skin, aside from pigmentation, rosea, blemishes or when you blush. We have separated our undertones in to 3 overarching shades; GOLDEN is cool, olive, essentially skin that has a little more yellow tone than pink. ROSE is rosey, warm blush tones, essentially skin that has more pink or red within it. NEUTRAL is the perfect mix of both ROSE and GOLDEN tones, creating a beige, peachy skin tone.
Step 3:
Choose your depth from 1-3 and in some cases 4. The depth of the Foundation is based on how dark or light you want or need your Foundation to be. So within each category and within each undertone we offer a sliding scale of shades from 1 being the lightest and 3 (or 4) being the darkest.
As mentioned previously, most people like to have a foundation that matches the face and body perfectly, but there are many people that want a shade that is darker and lighter than their actual skin tone – and this is fine! Makeup and especially skin is a very personal, bespoke element of beauty.
Pro Tip From Illamasqua Head Of Education - Mel Barrese: For an uber hydrated glowy look, is the go to Foundation. Ensure you are primed to perfection by using Hydra Veil Primer, this will ensure your skin looks stays in place all day and will smooth away any pores or fine lines for a youthful, perfected glow. I like to apply a 10 pence size of product around the T-Zone after moisturiser.

Apply an even layer all over the face roughly the size of 10 pence, starting from the centre of the face. Blending outwards in circular motions using the Highlighting Buffing Brush.

Lovely foundation
I’ve been buying this foundation for a while now and it’s one of my favourites. It’s good coverage and easy to blend. It’s more of a sheer finish.

Not enough product in bottle
I don't know what's going on. The quality of the product is good. I like it. And my skin is very difficult as most makeup gives me spots. But ... It lasted 2 months? My makeups from other brands same bottle size lasts 6 months AND I don't use a lot of everyday. This is ridiculous. And I bought 2 shades, using them both depending on the day I feel slightly darker or lighter. Two bottles and both running out! No wonder they are cheap!

Impressed
Brought this as a different option so I don’t wear my more expensive foundation every day. Didn’t expect wonders with the price but it’s lovely! Not full coverage but I don’t mind this on those lighter make up days. Colour was suggested on colour match but it’s a tad light but ok with a couple of bronzing drops.

I was expecting more form these, the colour was a good match, I’m very pale with warm undertones but the coverage wasn’t great I found that I had to go over with a few layers

Good foundation
I really like this foundation. I like natural coverage and this ticks that box for me. If you’re after something with thicker coverage this may not be the product for you. I also found this product smells quite nice compared to other foundations I’ve used in the past.

Amazing foundation
I bought this as i love trying new found especially if they are on a special price. I love light to medium foundations and bb creams and this is perfect but gives you more coverage, sits smooth under eyes as concealer too. Looks beautiful on the skin and I'm 53, bought 2 colours both great.
